Canada Tells United States To Be Tougher On Nigerians Seeking Visas

It is not the best of times for Nigerians who are trying to move into Canada from the United States of America. As asylum seekers from Nigeria move into Canada across a ditch in Upstate New York, Canadian authorities are telling the United States for help — but not with managing the movement at the border. Instead, they want U.S. immigration officials to reduce the foot traffic by screening Nigerians more stringently before granting them U.S. visas. It is a ripple effect that few expected last summer when people, mostly Haitians, began to walk into Quebec via an “irregular” border crossing north of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and seek refugee status. With the coming of spring, the flow has picked up again. But recently, the asylum seekers have been mostly Nigerian, and their route to the border is more problematic, Canadian officials say. Many Haitians had lived in the United States for years before suddenly learning they would lose their protected status and fleeing north. But many

Barcelona Breaks Greatest Record Of All Time

Barcelona remain undefeated as they conquer LaLiga with their eighth double Even above and beyond the usual joy of winning a league title, this year is a special one for Barcelona and followers of LaLiga. This was the season in which a side finally beat Real Sociedad's record of 38 games unbeaten. Ernesto Valverde's side drew level against Leganes, 31 games into this season, equalling the Basque side's record set across 1979 and 1980. The Blaugrana combined seven of the final games of last season under Luis Enrique with 31 from 2017/18 under Ernesto Valverde to achieve it. But the run didn't stop there, and Barcelona continue racking up games unbeaten and are now up to 41 without defeat. With the league title now secured, the only doubt will be if Barcelona can do what no side has ever done before in Spain and go a full season unbeaten. It has been done elsewhere, such as in the Premier League, but never in Spain. As things are now, only four sides can

Mohamed Salah Could Be Banned From Football For This Reason

Mohamed Salah may not feature for Liverpool in their remaining two Premier League matches for the current season after he Egyptian forward's encounter with Bruno Martins Indi of Stoke City. The new PFA player of the year, who currently leads the scoring charts with 31 goals to his name, appeared to flail a balled hand towards the Stoke City centre-back during Saturday's 0-0 draw at Anfield. The incident was not spotted by referee Andre Marriner at the time and could therefore be referred to a three-man panel of former officials to rule if it was worthy of a red card. According to The Sun, Football Association chiefs have been alerted to social media clips of the rumpus and Salah's fate is now said to be in their hands. Under FA rules, the PFA Player of the Year will miss the final two league games of this campaign and the first of next season if the panel unanimously decide it was a sending-off offence. The report suggests that Salah will discover by Monday eveni

The United boss believes the victory against Arsene Wenger’s men was well deserved overall. “I think if it was a draw it wouldn’t be unfair. Arsenal did a good game, they defended well, but we were the team that tried to win that created a few more chances,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “But that is normal. “We were a

#LazyNigerianYouths: Obasanjo Replies Buhari

One time president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday, April 28 was amazed on how Nigerian youths could be described as being lazy with all the challenges they face daily due to bad governance. Obasanjo stated that even the great grandfathers of Nigerian youths would never go as far as President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly did to dub Nigerian youths as being lazy. President Buhari allegedly made the comment during a recent trip to United Kingdom at the Heads of Commonwealth summit in London. But Obasanjo, who spoke in Ibadan when the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) held a Town Hall meeting in the Oyo State capital, wondered how Nigerian youths could be said to be lazy despite what they go through in the Sahara Desert, Libya and the Mediterranean Sea. He said, “But let me assure you of one thing. Having gone this far, I will not leave you high and dry, and I know God will continue to be with us. But don’t ever think that it will be easy. 2019 Presidential Election: Real Reasons I Parted Ways With Buhari - Atiku Reveals

I told him the activities of the party have been crippled and there is a need for restructure. Also I advised the president on issues concerning his administration. I said to him, if things continued like this, I will quit but Mr Buhari turned deaf ears and remained mum,” he said. When asked how he would battle corruption if elected in 2019, the presidential candidate said: “If Nigerians can recall, we initiated the Economic and Financial (Crimes) Commission (EFCC). One time Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance under former president Goodluck Jonathan administration, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has stated how ex Niger State, governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu and his colleagues ‘wrongly’ advised Jonathan to announce the removal of fuel subsidy on January 1, 2012. The withdrawal of the fuel subsidy led to bloody protests across the country, which forced government to backtrack on the price increase. In a new book, “Fighting corruption is dangerous: The story behind the headlines”, Okonjo-Iweala recalled how the move was “ill timed and wrong.” She wrote, “There were some debates within the Economic Management Team as to whether fuel subsidies should be phased out in stages or in one fell swoop. The consensus was that experience in Nigeria had shown that even a small partial phase-out would draw the same large protests as a complete phase-out, so the feeling of the team was, ‘why die in stages?’ Perhaps, it was better to do all at once.
