Perennial Darkness: Delta Residents Cry Out After 8 Years Of No Electricity

People living in the small town of Ubulu-Okiti, Aniocha local council of Delta State seem to have got to the limit of human endurance after being thrown into perennial darkness as a result of an alleged intentional disconnection by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). The action is in spite of alleged ongoing illegal levies by some officials of BEDC amounting to over N30 million under the guise of attempting to reconnect the farming community to the national grid. The former Power Holding Corporation of Nigeria (PHCN) had actually disconnected Ubulu-Okiti and some other communities as a result of a national policy to dedicate the power-line to the emerging industrial layout in the state capital of Asaba. Other affected communities such as Onicha-Ugbo, Isselle-Uku, Ubulu-Uku and Ogwashi-Uku have since been restored to the national grid, curiously leaving out only Ubulu-Okiti. A peeved President General of Ubulu-Okiti Development Association (UODA), Mr. Izu Iloba-A

The house help aka Danzy, was alleged to have broken into the room where the money was kept when his boss, Ebun Akin, a businessman, was not around. He then fled with the cash. The suspect allegedly committed the crime on Friday, February 22, 2018, six months after he was employed through an agent, identified only as Samuel. It was gathered that Akin had earlier planned to deposit the money in the bank for the payment of his workers’ salaries. The victim told reporters that when he discovered the burglary on getting home that day, he went to Ikade’s apartment and observed that he had fled. Akin said he went to the Anthony Police Station to report the case, but he was asked to alert the police whenever the suspect was sighted. He said, “I left Daniel (Ikade) at home that

Monkeys Invade Gbagada; Residents Run For Their Lives

Invasion by monkeys from their natural home is compelling a large number of residents of Soluyi/Sosanya community in Gbagada area of Lagos State to run for their lives. Several residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday, March 26, that they could no longer face the situation. The residents called on the state government to save the community from the trouble, saying that the animals forced their ways into their rooms, destroying window and door nets, foodstuffs and other items. Chairman of the community’s Landlord Association, Mr. Adigun Olaleye, said it had become difficult for the community to curtail the monkeys and their destructive attitude. He said the invasion might have resulted from the nearness of the community to a swamp forest that separated the community from Ifako area. According to him, the monkeys come into residences at any time including early morning and gain entrance into rooms even if the houses are locked. Olalaye told NAN that the

Heated Debate In Uganda After White Man Was Used As Jesus Christ To Mark Palm Sunday

A heated debate has started online after a White man was allegedly employed to play the role of Jesus Christ for Palm Sunday celebration at Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine in Kampala, Uganda. Palm Sunday is the start of the Holy Week and the day Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, one week before he was crucified. But a community Catholic church in the country's capital decided to use a 'real' White man to play the role of Jesus Christ whom they probably felt is White also - thereby causing unrest among Ugandan netizens. Reasons Why Some Groups Want Killer Herdsmen Declared As Terrorist Group

The mayhem and massacre caused by killer herdsmen all over Nigeria are not being taking lightly by some socio-groups. The request by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) for the United Nations to declare attacks by herdsmen in Nigeria as terrorist acts is neither misplaced nor inappropriate, going by the mode and regularity of the mayhem visited by the herdsmen to innocent Nigerians. If anything, the call should be an urgent reminder to President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to perform its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property of Nigerians, or contend with the consequences of its failure. Already, the unceasing attacks are assuming a dangerous dimension, following the revelation of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State that members of some communities in the state were paying toll fees to herdsmen before they were allowed to gain access to their farms. As the governor noted, such a situation is alarming as it poses a precipice to a worst crisis

Scientists Reveal Dangers Of Sugary Drinks And They Kill Fast

Scientists on Thursday, March 22, warned adults above the age of 45 on the danger posed by sugary drinks. The researchers stated that the consumption of large amounts of sugary beverages increases the risk of dying from heart disease or other causes. This is contained in the findings of a preliminary research presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology and Prevention/Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Scientific Sessions 2018. It noted that taking large amounts of sugary beverages, including soft drinks, fruit drinks and fruit juices, may lead to a higher risk of dying from heart disease or other causes, compared to those who drink fewer sugary drinks. “It is important to note that this study does not prove cause and effect, rather it identifies a trend,” Medical Press quoted the association as saying. Study participants in the top 25 per cent of consumers, those who tended to drink 24 ounces or more of sugary beverages each day, had twice the risk of death

Nigeria's Biggest Problem Is North - YCE

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has clearly made it known that the Northern part of the country is Nigeria’s biggest problem and obstacle to development. The Secretary General of YCE, Dr. Kunle Olajide, said this in reaction to a comment by the Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie, that Nigeria could not survive without the north. Olajide made this known in Oshogbo, the Osun State capital on Thursday. He said that before describing itself as the best thing that ever happened to Nigeria, the north should consider that Boko Haram, religious crises and killer Fulani herdsmen are all products of the north. Olajide said that by the statement, the ACF had accepted that the north represents everything that is bad about Nigeria. He said, “The newspapers reported the Arewa Consultative Forum as saying that Nigeria cannot survive without the North . Whatever was meant by that statement credited to the ACF chairman remains to be understood. “However, I

Delete Your Facebook Account Now, Says WhatsApp Co-Founder, Brian Acton

Brian Acton, who started WhatsApp with Jan Koum in 2009, has announced it's time for people to delete their Facebook account, following the recent scandal with Facebook's alleged indirect involvement in the US Elections of 2016. A little backstory in case you missed it - data mining and analytics firm Cambridge Analytica misused Facebook user data in violation of Facebook's guidelines and terms, leading to a continuing, huge scandal. The data played a huge role in influencing voters in the 2016 US Elections to favor then-candidate Donald Trump. The scandal has lead to a big drop in Facebook stock value in the past week. It goes without saying that many in the tech community have turned their attention to Facebook and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's silence has been troubling. Some investors are even reportedly suing Facebook over the stock price drop. So in light of the evolving controversy Brian Acton voiced his opinion on Twitter that people should delete their Facebook

United States Senator Blasts President Trump For Congratulating Vladimir Putin On Victory

President Donald Trump of the United States said on Tuesday that he called Russian President Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on his latest election victory but Republican Sen. John McCain lambasted him for that, calling it an "insult". Trump said that he and Putin would likely get together in the not too distant future to discuss what he called "the arms race," Ukraine, Syria, and North Korea. "We had a very good call,' Trump said. He added that the arms race "is getting out of control. We will never allow anybody to have anything close to what we have." Reacting to Trump's statement, Republican Sen. John McCain said Trump had "insulted" Russians who had been denied a chance to vote. McCain said in a statement: "An American president does not lead the Free World by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections. And by doing so with Vladimir Putin, President Trump insulted every Russian citizen who was denied t

Chelsea Legend Mentions Only 2 Players Better Than Messi

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has made it known that Diego Maradona and Pele are better than Lionel Messi. Drogba hailed Messi as an “extraordinary player”, but insists he’s not quite at the level of two legends just yet. Messi has won the Ballon d’Or five times, the Champions League four times, and tasted La Liga success eight times, but so far World Cup glory has eluded him. Drogba feels if he is able to achieve this, then he can be mentioned in the same sentence as his compatriot Maradona and Pele “Messi could stop now and he would already have done a lot for football. “To win a World Cup would make him even more legendary. He’s an extraordinary player!” “He’s still not at the heights of Maradona and Pele, but he’s not far away,” Drogba told Sport. Source: Daily Posting

Tough Times For Chinese Christians As Government Lays Embargo On Church Activities

It seems Chinese christians are in for a hard time as authorities across several counties China’s central Henan province issued a warning on March 8, prohibiting any Christian assembly in the area and placing Christians under house arrest. Additionally, officials continue to tear down couplet door decorations that use Christian language. According to an anonymous source in Shangqiu, Henan, Christians there have been placed under house arrest without charge, with police officers watching their residence and requiring them to report where they are going every time they wish to leave the house. “I heard that many churches in Sheqi County also received a notice that believers cannot gather anymore,” a Christian in Nanyang, Henan said. “Christians are afraid of gathering and they don’t have anywhere to gather either. Times have changed. It feels like the Cultural Revolution.” The Cultural Revolution refers to the period between 1966 and 1976, when Mao Zedong attempted to destroy all

Know This Important Information Before You Plan Joining Facebook

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg has possibly given millions of users of his social network, Facebook, another reason to stop using the social media platform. Newspaper reports that a UK political consultancy used millions of user profiles creates fresh risks at the social network he founded. People are already spending less time on Facebook. The danger is that members may unfriend it altogether. Facebook lost more than $35 billion of its value on Monday after reports said that more than 50 million people had their personal data misappropriated by political consultancy Cambridge Analytica. The firm used the Facebook trove, obtained without authorization, to build a software program to influence voters, including in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, according to the New York Times and Observer of London. Multiple investigations have been opened in the United States and Europe as a result - just as Facebook scrambles to address earlier challenges involving fake-news and ad-measu

This Is Why Russian, Syrian, Iranian Forces Can't Face Just 2,000 American Soldiers

Just a little number of 2,000 or so American soldiers or better still, military men remain in control of Syria's rich western oil fields. Iran, Syria's authorities, as well as Russia overtly oppose the US presence, but there's nothing all these three countries can do about it. An expert explains why it would be a losing battle to take on the US. Since the US-led effort against ISIS has destroyed almost all of the terror group's territorial sovereignty in Syria, 2,000 or so US forces remain in control of the country's rich oil fields— something that Iran, Syria's government, and Russia openly oppose. However, sadly for Russia, pro-Syrian government forces, and Iranian militias, there's not much they can do about it. A small US presence in a western town called Der Ezzor has maintained. A Pennsylvania college student whose whereabouts were unknown after a rugby competition at Bermuda was found lifeless Monday, March 19, following after a thorough search of the British island territory. Searchers found the corpse of Mark Dombroski, 19, at the base of a colonial-era fort in a park not far from where he was last seen walking by himself on CCTV footage, officials with the Bermuda Police Service said at a news conference. Liverpool danger man Mohamed Salah is on course to become only the second English Premier League footballer in the last 11 seasons to win the Golden Shoe, awarded to the highest goal scorer in the European leagues The former Chelsea player scored four goals against Watford on Saturday evening to take his league tally for the season to 28, three more than nearest challenger Lionel Messi of Barcelona. Edinson Cavani of Paris Saint-Germain, Ciro Immobile of Lazio and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane are all a further goal behind. If Salah does win the Golden Shoe, he will emulate former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who shared the accolade with Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013-14 when both scored 31 goals. The Golden Shoe table is ranked on points rather than goals, with goals scored in Europe's top five leagues worth two points. PSG Champions League Ambition Blown Away By Resurgent Ronaldo, Real Madrid

Ligue one defending champions, Paris Saint Germain were bundled out of the UEFA Champipns League round of 16 by Real Madrid. PSG's Qatari-bankrolled bid to put themselves among Europe's elite foundered again as Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid comfortably beat the French club to move into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Ronaldo administered the killer blow with a 51st minute header at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday that saw PSG's chances of pulling back a two-goal defeat from the first leg vanishing into the smoke from supporters' flares. A scrappy PSG goal from Edinson Cavani was followed by the cherry on the cake for the defending European champions with Brazilian Casemiro's deflected goal. As the ball looped into the net to complete a comfortable 5-2 win over the two legs, the half a billion euros a year that PSG's Qatari owners have pumped into the club since 2012 had once again failed to land the one prize they crave. Why United States Dumped Nigeria's Crude Oil - Ibe Kachikwu

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has revealed that Nigeria has forever lost the United States as the main market of crude export. Following a surge in the production of shale oil, America’s import of oil from Nigeria dropped to zero in June 2015 from the all-time high of 1.31 million barrels per day of the commodity in February 2006. In the early 2000s, the United States bought 700,000 barrels per day of the commodity. Speaking at CERAWeek in Houston, US, Kachikwu noted that the era when the United States was a ready market for crude oil from Nigeria “is gone”. The CERAWeek conference tries to strike an outreach between the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, and shale oil producers. Meanwhile, crude oil from Nigeria are now favourites for the Asian markets led by India.

José Mourinho Says Manchester United Were Lucky In Dramatic Victory Against Crystal Palace

Manchester United managerJose Mourinho stated that his boys were fortunate during Monday night Premier League game against Crystal Palace. Manchester United had conceeded two goals at Selhurst Park – Andros Townsend’s early opener and Patrick van Aanholt’s second half effort. But Chris Smalling got one back for United and Romelu Lukaku equalised with 14 minutes remaining. In the final seconds, Nemanja Matic’s late thunderbolt capped a dramatic 3-2 win. Speaking after the match, Mourinho said “You always need that little bit of luck to win a match in the last few minutes”. “We played very good quality football in the second half but we made so many defensive mistakes. “That disgraceful, childish second goal changed everything. But the players kept an amazing attitude. “I cannot tell you half of the things I told my team at half-time because there would be lots of bleeping on television. “To come back from 2-0 away from home against a team that is desperate for points, i

The story of this petrol attendant that became a lawyer is something many should reflect over always. People used to laugh at him when he struggled to make ends meet as a petrol attendant. Tsatseng told Daily Sun: “I was a petrol attendant for three years and people looked down on me. People who came to fill up their cars would often tell me that I wouldn’t be where I was if I had studied. “What they didn’t know was that I was studying!” The hard-working young man studied law at the University of Joburg. He said he did not have a lot when he was still a student. “Other students were wearing nice clothes and eating good food but my parents couldn’t afford to buy those things for me.” Tsatseng said he started working at a local petrol station in 2014. He used the little he earned to buy food and clothes. “When univ

Jurgen Klopp Criticises José Mourinho Over Style Of Play

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp seems to have come for the head of the Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho over the latter's style of play. Mourinho has been criticised of 'parking the bus' at Old Trafford this season - something Klopp insists he could never do at Anfield. Liverpool currently trail United by two points in the Premier League in the battle to be 'best of the rest'. And Klopp said: "We are here to win trophies and performance has a big influence on that. We are not a club who won a last trophy two or three years ago and now everybody thinks: 'OK, that's the way they play'. "If we were to park the bus constantly in home games people would whistle us out of the stadium because they think that's not what we want to watch, and we don't win anything. "So we have to come from the other side, we have to dominate football games. To play, to do, to be kind of exciting. That's the only way for us. "I am ha

Arsenal In Deep Crisis As Arsene Wenger On War Path With Top Players As Champions League Hope Slips Away

There is so much crisis going on with Arsenal FC as Arsene Wenger and some of his senior players could be on war path. The Gunners dressing-room blame game erupted as Arsene Wenger gave up on the Champions League. A dismal first-half display included two blunders by Petr Cech as the Gunners crashed to a fourth successive defeat for the first time since 2002. Among boss Wenger’s cryptic responses to questions was a claim his side were “naked” and “looking for a shirt”. But they were undressed by Brighton’s Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit back. Skipper Laurent Koscielny, 32, claims Wenger must share the blame. Asked who was the guilty party, Koscielny said: “It’s difficult to say if it’s his fault or our fault. The players have responsibility on the pitch, the boss has responsibility, too. “This boss gives his best for this club and he has done it for 20 years but it’s very difficult and we need to stay together and fight. “When you play

Appointees Hypnotised Governor Aregbesola Because Of This Reason, Says Female Commissioner

Governor Rauf Aregbesola has been said to be a victim of juju loving appointees, as stated by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs in Osun State, Alhaja Latifat Abiodun Giwa. The female commissioner stated that some appointees including commissioners seeking special favour hypnotised Governor Rauf Aregbesola in his first term. She said this in Osogbo at the weekend during a colloquium, organised by a socio-religious group, Muslim Political Awareness Front (MUPAF). Giwa notes that the governor has done his best for Osun and that he should not be blamed for whatever is considered to be his wrong decision. Cristiano Ronaldo To Be Disappointed By Real Madrid Next Season For This Reason

Cristiano Ronaldo will likely be a lone ranger come next season as the Real Madrid authority wants to do some major shakeup. The Real Madrid chief has apparently drawn up a list of 10 players which he wishes to offload this summer in a bid to put the nightmare season to bed. And a number of key players are said to fear being shoved out of the Bernabeu door. According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, Perez wants to move Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema onto pastures new. But that could completely upset the harmony of the team and in particular Ronaldo - who enjoyed unrivalled success as a trio helped win back-to-back Champions Leagues in 2016 and 2017. Perez is said to want Bale gone because of his repetitive injuries, while Benzema has only netted three league goals all season. However, the president will have to reinvest in his squad to provide Ronaldo with other partners, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar is thought to be his top target. Diario Gol add that goalkeeper Keylor

Tottenham Hotspur Boss Mauricio Pochettino Frustrated With Use Of VAR For This Reason

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has given assistance to VAR managers to get the system right as he is afraid it will "kill the emotion" of the game. The Video Assistant Referee was once again the centre of attention during Tottenham's FA Cup replay against Rochdale at Wembley. Spurs had two goals disallowed, were denied one penalty and awarded another during a chaotic first half which Pochettino described as "a bit embarrassing for everyone". Erik Lamela's goal was ruled out, after a delay of about two minutes, for a minor infringement by Fernando Llorente to the astonishment of the crowd, and Lucas Moura's penalty appeal was turned down following another consultation. Then, with the hosts leading through Son Heung-min's goal, Spurs were awarded a free-kick when Kieran Tripper was fouled, only for referee Paul Tierney to eventually point to the penalty spot after another VAR ruling. Son, having paused during his run-up, had his
