The story of this petrol attendant that became a lawyer is something many should reflect over always.
People used to laugh at him when he struggled to make ends meet as a petrol attendant.
But now those who ridiculed Tsatseng Rantsho (24) from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni will have to eat their words.
The young man has completed his legal studies!
Tsatseng told Daily Sun: “I was a petrol attendant for three years and people looked down on me. People who came to fill up their cars would often tell me that I wouldn’t be where I was if I had studied.
“What they didn’t know was that I was studying!”
The hard-working young man studied law at the University of Joburg.
He said he did not have a lot when he was still a student. “Other students were wearing nice clothes and eating good food but my parents couldn’t afford to buy those things for me.”
Tsatseng said he started working at a local petrol station in 2014. He used the little he earned to buy food and clothes.
“When university opened the following year, I continued working.”
He said he had to find a way to balance his job with his studies.
Tsatseng said he knew why he was there and where he wanted to be in the future.
“That is my motto. Don’t let what other people say discourage you. Fight for what you want, no matter the situation.”
The young lawyer said life was hard when he was a child.
“We were not poor but we were struggling. Luckily, my matric results helped me get into university and I didn’t have to worry about fees.”
He advised young people who found themselves in a similar situation to work hard.
“They should try by all means to pass matric with flying colours.
“Their results will open doors for them.”
He said he completed his four-year course in June.
“I then got the job I had been studying for.”
Tsatseng said he has learnt a lot about life.
“But the biggest lesson I’ve learnt so far is that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.”
