The Lagos State Government has asked the Supreme Court to quash the judgment of a Lagos Court of Appeal that acquitted Maj. Hamza al-Mustapha, Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha and Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola. Lagos had prayed the apex court to uphold the death sentence awarded against Mustapha and Shofolahan by Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State High Court on January 30, 2012. The state government filed a notice of appeal seeking vacation of the decision of the appellate court on 10 different grounds. It was gathered that the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, signed the notice of appeal, seeking the “setting aside the judgment of the court below.” Lagos argued that the testimonies of its star witnesses, Barnabas Jabila, also known as Sergeant Rogers, and Mohammed Abdul, who had confessed to their roles in the murder, were detailed and consistent. A pastor who allegedly killed a one-year and six-month-old baby for ritual in Cross River State has been paraded by the police command. The suspect was paraded alongside six others. The man whose name was given as Obo-Ekpenyog is the pastor of Royal God’s Commandment Ministry, Calabar. The spokesperson of the command, ASP Irene Ugbo, while parading the suspects before newsmen, said he was arrested alongside six others on Aug. 24 by men of the command. An important National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of  the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is going on to decide on offers made by the Federal Government team last week to persuade its striking members to return to work. Chloe Morris, a 13-year-old schoolgirl has killed herself in her bedroom. The young girl committed suicide after arguing with her mum during the school holidays, an inquest heard. An inquest into her death heard the teen had a minor argument with her mum before she was found hanged upstairs, the Bristol Post reports.
