Liverpool dominated from the off and broke the deadlock just 17 minutes in as Roberto Firmino headed home unmarked from Joseph Gomez’s delivery.
The hosts thought they had netted their second just 10 minutes later as Mohamed Salah tapped home from Emre Can’s scooped pass, only to have the goal correctly ruled out for offside.
It wouldn’t take long for Jurgen Klopp’s men to double their lead, though, as Sadio Mane made something out of nothing, cutting in past Rob Holding far too easily before curling a sumptuous shot into the bottom corner of Petr Cech’s net five minutes from the break.
Just 12 minutes after the restart, Liverpool got their third as Mohamed Salah robbed Hector Bellerin of possession on the halfway line before racing through one-on-one and slotting a smart finish low into the corner.
The hosts continued running rampant and made it 4-0 with 13 minutes left, Salah dinking a wonderful ball to the far-post to find an on-rushing and completely unmarked Daniel Sturridge to head home from a few feet out.
