#RamadanDailyDigest: How To Read And Understand One Juz’ Of The Glorious Qur’an A Day (Ramadan Day 11)

Ramadan Day 11 on #RamadanDailyDigest will give insight to why recitation of the Glorious Qur'an is one of the fundamental acts of worship while fasting.

Ramadan is the month of the Glorious Qur’an. Therefore, Ramadan Day 11 is another day to remind us all the importance of reading the Glorious Qur'an copiously in this holy month. Ramadan is a sacred season when hearts reconnect with divine revelation.

Allah says in the Glorious Qur’an 2:185:

“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion…”

For many Muslims, a common Ramadan goal is to complete the entire Qur’an at least once by reading one Juz’ (section) each day. But beyond finishing it, the real success lies in reading with understanding, reflection, and transformation.

On Ramadan Day 11, let us navigate how to effectively read and understand one Juz’ of the Glorious Qur’an daily, combining spiritual devotion with practical strategy.

Why One Juz’ a Day?

The Glorious Qur’an is divided into 30 equal parts (Ajza’) so that it can be completed in 30 days. Ajza' is the plural word for Juz' (singular). This structure makes Ramadan the perfect opportunity for consistency.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The best deeds are those that are consistent, even if they are small.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Reading one Juz’ daily equals about 20 pages in the Madinah Mushaf. This is a manageable portion when broken into smaller sessions.

Step 1: Divide Your Juz’ Strategically

Instead of attempting to read all 20 pages at once, divide it around your daily prayers:

* 4 pages after Fajr

* 4 pages after Zhuhr

* 4 pages after Asr

* 4 pages after Maghrib

* 4 pages after Isha

This method prevents burnout and helps maintain khushu’ (focus). Ramadan already restructures your schedule, so align your Qur’an recitation with salah for spiritual synergy.

Step 2: Read with Translation and Tafsir

In Qur'an 4:82, Allah commands reflection:

“Do they not reflect upon the Qur’an?”

Reading the Arabic version of the Glorious Qur'an alone carries reward, however understanding the message multiplies impact.

Alongside your recitation:

* Use a trusted English translation.

* Read brief tafsir (explanation) from reliable scholars.

* Highlight verses that speak to your current life situation.

You should also ask yourself:

1. What is Allah teaching me here?

2. Is this verse a command, warning, promise, or story?

How can I apply it today?

Even spending 10–15 minutes reviewing key verses from your Juz’ deepens understanding immensely.

Step 3: Focus on Themes, Not Just Pages

Each Juz’ carries themes. These are stories of prophets, laws, warnings, hope, mercy, or descriptions of the Hereafter.

For example:

Juz’ 1 emphasises guidance, belief, and the characteristics of believers.

Juz’ 2 discusses community law and obedience.

Later Ajza’ focus on prophetic struggles and divine justice.

When you identify themes, the Qur’an feels cohesive rather than fragmented.

Step 4: Improve Tajweed Gradually

The holy month of Ramadan is also a month to beautify recitation.

The Prophet of Allah ﷺ stated:

“Beautify the Qur’an with your voices.”

If possible:

* Listen to a skilled Qari (reciter) before or after reading.

* Correct common tajweed mistakes.

* Recite aloud (if appropriate) to engage your heart.

Even improving one rule during Ramadan is spiritual growth.

Step 5: Make Du’a Before and After Reading

Understanding the Glorious Qur’an is a gift from Allah. The scholars would begin with supplication:

“O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”

After reading, ask:

* For guidance.

* For forgiveness.

* For strength to implement what you learned.

The sacred month of Ramadan is a month when Du’a is especially accepted, and pairing Du’a with the Glorious Qur’an magnifies spiritual impact.

Step 6: Reflect, Don’t Rush

The goal is not speed but transformation.

Some companions would spend the entire night repeating a single verse in reflection.

 Allah says in the Glorious Qur'an (38:29):

“A Book We have revealed to you, blessed, that they may reflect upon its verses…”

If a verse is not clear to while reciting it, or you did not recite it well, pause. Repeat it. Let it settle in your heart. This is because quality over quantity brings lasting change.

Step 7: Journal Your Ramadan Qur’an Journey

Keep a small notebook or digital journal and write:

* One verse that touched you.

* One lesson learned.

* One action step for tomorrow.

By Day 30, you will have 30 powerful reflections, which is a spiritual treasure beyond simply finishing the whole Glorious Qur’an in a haste.

Common Challenges & Solutions

1. Feeling tired while fasting?

Read after Fajr when your mind is fresh.

2. Busy schedule?

Listen to the Glorious Qur’an during commute and follow along later.

3. Difficulty understanding Arabic?

Use translation consistently. This is because progress is gradual, and not immediate.

4. Falling behind?

Double up gently the next day without guilt. Ramadan is about mercy, not pressure.

The Real Goal: Living the Qur’an

Completing one Juz’ daily is not merely a Ramadan tradition, but a pathway to closeness with Allah.

Prophet and ﷺ was described by Aisha (RA) as:

“His character was the Qur’an.”

Imagine if by the end of Ramadan, your speech softens, your patience increases, and your heart becomes more humble - that is the true completion of the Qur’an.

Final Reflection for Ramadan Day 11

As you complete another Ramadan fasting by Maghrib today, renew your intention:

* Not just to finish pages, but to finish the month transformed.

* Not just to recite, but to understand, reflect, and act.

May Allah make the Glorious Qur’an the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, and the remover of our worries.

Stay consistent. Stay reflective. Stay connected.

One Juz’ at a time, one heart at a time.

#RamadanDailyDigest: Muslim Wives Are Supporters, Not Slaves

Muslims have completed fasting Day 4 today, as they look forward to Day 5 fasting out of the 29 or 30 days fasting; it is important to highlight the roles Muslim wives play in the family. Muslim wives are supporters, and not slaves, and should be treated with utmost dignity. In the religion of Islam, the roles and rights of Muslim wives are copiously written and spoken about. How husbands should relate with their wives are clearly stated. In the Glorious Qur'an, to show the love Allaah has for women, chapter 4 is also called 'Suuratu Nisaa' which translates to chapter of the women in English language. Interesting to know that there is no single chapter out of the total 114 chapters of the Glorious Qur'an named after men, further showing that Muslim wives, daughters, mothers, and all groups of females are held in high esteem by Allaah. It is a sad tale to see what happens in the present day world, whereby some women are maltreated and abused by the society and their part...
