#RamadanDailyDigest: Daily Charity - Small Acts That Earn Big Rewards (Ramadan Day 8)

#RamadanDailyDigest will analyse how small acts of kindness could lead to big reward on Ramadan Day 8.

By Ramadan Day 8, fasting has softened the heart. Hunger has created empathy. Thirst has awakened gratitude. Now comes one of the most powerful acts of worship in this holy month of Ramadan - daily charity (sadaqah).

Ramadan is not only about personal worship, but  also about social compassion. In Islam, even the smallest act of giving can earn immense reward. The Qur'an repeatedly commands generosity, and the Prophet Muhammad ï·º modeled charity as a daily lifestyle particularly in Ramadan.

Qur’anic Commands on Giving

Charity is not optional kindness in Islam. It is a divine instruction from Allah.

Allah says in the Glorious Qur’an 2:261:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies for whom He wills.”

One seed. Seven hundred rewards, or more.

This verse reveals the spiritual mathematics of sadaqah: what you give never decreases, but multiplies.

Allah also commands in the Glorious Qur’an 2:110:

“Establish prayer and give zakah. Whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will find it with Allah.”

Charity is described as an investment for the Hereafter. Every small coin, every meal shared, every quiet donation is recorded.

The Prophet ï·º, who is The Most Generous of Allah's creatures as reported by Ibn Abbas (RA):

“The Messenger of Allah ï·º was the most generous of people, and he was even more generous during Ramadan.” (Bukhari & Muslim narrated the Hadith)

Notice the emphasis: even more generous in Ramadan.

Why is so?

This is because, in the holy month of Ramadan, Allah multiples rewards in many folds. Likewise, fasting creates empathy. It is also because giving charity purifies wealth and the soul.

The Prophet ï·º said:

“Charity does not decrease wealth.” (Muslim)

From a spiritual perspective, Allah replaces what is given. From a practical (physical) perspective, generosity builds goodwill, community, and trust.

What Is Sadaqah?

Many people think charity only means giving money. In Islam, sadaqah is broader.

The Prophet ï·º taught:

“Every good deed is charity.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

He also stated:

“Your smile for your brother is charity.” (Tirmidhi)

This means:

* Feeding someone at iftar is charity.

* Helping a neighbor carry groceries is charity.

* Teaching beneficial knowledge is charity.

* Removing harm from the road is charity.

* Even kind speech is charity.

Ramadan Day 8 is a reminder that daily charity is accessible to everyone - rich or poor.

Types of Charity to Practice Daily in Ramadan

1. Financial Charity (Sadaqah & Zakah)

Giving money to the poor, supporting mosques, sponsoring iftar meals, or helping families in need carries multiplied reward in Ramadan.

The Prophet ï·º stated:

“Whoever provides food for a fasting person to break his fast will have a reward like theirs.” (Tirmidhi)

Imagine earning the reward of fasting without fasting twice just by feeding someone.

2. Charity Through Service

* Volunteering at a mosque

* Helping to organise community iftar

*Supporting elderly relatives

* Offering free professional help (legal, medical, tutoring)

These above acts reflect prophetic character.

3. Hidden Charity

The Glorious Qur’an encourages giving privately, as Allah stated in Qur’an 2:271 that:

“If you give charity openly, it is good; but if you conceal it and give it to the poor, it is better for you.”

Hidden charity protects sincerity and increases reward.

Ramadan is the perfect time to give secretly, which is known only to Allah.

The Spiritual Impact of Daily Charity

1. Sadaqah does more than support others. It transforms the giver.

2. It purifies the heart from greed.

3. It builds the spirit of appreciation and gratitude.

4. It softens arrogance.

5. It strengthens community relationships.

Fasting teaches self-restraint. Charity teaches selflessness. Together, they create taqwa (God-consciousness).

Small Acts, Big Rewards: Sometimes we delay giving because we think our contribution is “too small.”

But the Prophet ï·º warned:

“Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Half a date. That is how accessible salvation can be.

On Ramadan Day 8, do not underestimate:

* A ₦500 given out sincerely.

* A shared meal.

* A quiet Du’a for someone in hardship.

* A simple and innocent smile.

Remember that in Allah’s scale, small deeds done consistently are beloved.

Daily Charity Plan for Ramadan

To make sadaqah a habit, try this simple strategy:

1. Set a small daily amount to give, even digitally.

2. Feed at least one person during Ramadan.

3. Offer one non-financial act of kindness daily.

4. Make Du’a for other people and let the angels say “Aameen” for you.

5. Give secretly at least once this week.

You note that doing an act of kindness no matter how small consistently is highly rewarding in the presence of Allah more than the size.

Ramadan: The Month of Multiplication

Every good deed in Ramadan carries multiplied reward. Scholars explain that voluntary acts are elevated closer to obligatory acts in reward, and obligatory acts are multiplied many times over.

If charity already multiplies 700 times (Qur’an 2:261), imagine its impact in Ramadan.

Ramadan Day 8 is not just another fasting day, but another opportunity to invest in eternity.

Give Daily, Even If It Is Small

Daily charity is not about wealth. It is about willingness. It is about seeing hunger and responding. It is about feeling gratitude and sharing it. It is about remembering that what you give today may save you tomorrow.

The Qur’an commands it. The Prophet ï·º embodied it. Ramadan multiplies it. So as you have fasted and broken today, and plan for tomorrow's fasting ask yourself:

What small act can I do that earns big reward? This is because in the sacred month of Ramadan, even a small seed can grow into endless blessings.

May Allah reward all our acts of kindness and wholely purify our intentions and deeds, Aameen!

#RamadanDailyDigest: Muslim Wives Are Supporters, Not Slaves

Muslims have completed fasting Day 4 today, as they look forward to Day 5 fasting out of the 29 or 30 days fasting; it is important to highlight the roles Muslim wives play in the family. Muslim wives are supporters, and not slaves, and should be treated with utmost dignity. In the religion of Islam, the roles and rights of Muslim wives are copiously written and spoken about. How husbands should relate with their wives are clearly stated. In the Glorious Qur'an, to show the love Allaah has for women, chapter 4 is also called 'Suuratu Nisaa' which translates to chapter of the women in English language. Interesting to know that there is no single chapter out of the total 114 chapters of the Glorious Qur'an named after men, further showing that Muslim wives, daughters, mothers, and all groups of females are held in high esteem by Allaah. It is a sad tale to see what happens in the present day world, whereby some women are maltreated and abused by the society and their part...
