Muslims have completed fasting Day 4 today, as they look forward to Day 5 fasting out of the 29 or 30 days fasting; it is important to highlight the roles Muslim wives play in the family.
Muslim wives are supporters, and not slaves, and should be treated with utmost dignity. In the religion of Islam, the roles and rights of Muslim wives are copiously written and spoken about. How husbands should relate with their wives are clearly stated.
In the Glorious Qur'an, to show the love Allaah has for women, chapter 4 is also called 'Suuratu Nisaa' which translates to chapter of the women in English language. Interesting to know that there is no single chapter out of the total 114 chapters of the Glorious Qur'an named after men, further showing that Muslim wives, daughters, mothers, and all groups of females are held in high esteem by Allaah.
It is a sad tale to see what happens in the present day world, whereby some women are maltreated and abused by the society and their partners. From the way a woman should dress to the way her partner should related with her, the Glorious Qur'an and sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) informed all Muslims. Therefore, it is out of place for women to be objectified. In Islam, Muslim wives are treated as the costliest of treasure and main supporters of their husbands.

A man is not expected to physically engage his wife if there is a misunderstanding between both parties. This is what Islam preaches. It is therefore disheartening to see or read or hear stories of wives being physically and violently treated worse than slaves.
In the farewell sermon of The Prophet of Islaam before his demise, Prophet Muhammad made it known that just as husbands have certain rights over their wives, so also Muslim wives have some rights over their husbands. The man is outrightly the head of the family, he however should carry his wife or wives along in the running of the family.
In conclusion, Muslim wives too should be submissive to their husbands in obeying Allaah and His Prophet. They should appear as dignified women, and be all the sauce of joy and happiness to their husbands. Husbands should always feel tranquility and joy when they look at the face of Muslim wives, and not the other way round.
