Just yesterday, Monday, July 31, president of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, alongside Kwara state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). But another PDP defection tsunami today, has hit the APC, following the changing of political terrain by former Speaker, House of Representatives and incumbent Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Suffice to state here that APC publicity secretary and a former minister, Bolaji Abdullahi is technically out of the APC.
Where did it all go wrong for the APC and where will President Muhammadu Buhari find refuge in 2019 presidential election? However, anything is possible in the game of politics.
Three things could make swimming through the murky waters of politics difficult for President Buhari and his party during next year election.
1. Three governors of APC extraction have defected already. These governors control states which are vital to the electoral victory of the current president. Who says it will be easy for President Buhari to win Sokoto, Kwara and Benue in 2019?
2. The APC is being paid back in its own coins. The party should remember that what goes round comes around. The party rode on the back of some defectors from n-PDP prior to 2015. Now, they are suffering the same fate.
3. A large number of Nigerians believe the APC is a colossal failure and big disaster. Many Nigerians complain of groaning economic hardship daily. Sadly to note that close to eight million Nigerians have lost their jobs just under 21 months, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The parting question here is, is the PDP a better option for the electorates and Nigerians to the calamitous ruling APC?
