Russia will kick start the 2018 FIFA World Cup in a few hours time. It is no longer a news that the eastern European country is hosting the once in a four year mundial. The host nation will begin its quest to go far in the tournament with an opener against Asian powerhouse, Saudi Arabia.
There are some concerns in the air as per Russia's hunger for a World Cup glory. This is based on the fact that the host country lost almost all its pre-tournament friendly matches. Argentina, although had a slim 1-0 victory over Russia, the host nation is yet to convince football pundits that it can vie for the trophy.
The experience of South Africa, a host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup is still fresh in the minds of many football lovers. The African nation crashed out in the group stage of the event.
France is the last host to win the global competition. Will Russia repeat the same feat? The answer is glaringly more of a 'No!'
Russia does not have depth in its squad. Apart from goalkeeper and team captain, Akinfeev, most other players will be playing in their first FIFA World Cup.
In addition, Russia has never been among the top five contenders in any Senior FIFA tournament.
