Mikel Obi Reveals Why Nigeria Lost To Czech In Pre-World Cup Match

National team captain John Mikel Obi has given his own thought to the lost the Super Eagles suffered to the Czech national team in a FIFA pre-Russia World Cup friendly game.

The former Chelsea player stated that jet lag affected the team.

The Super Eagles were defeated by the Czech football team on Wednesday, June 5, in Austria in their final friendly ahead of the World Cup.

Defender Tomas Kalas, fresh from helping Fulham win promotion to the English Premier League, scored the only goal of the game in the first half in Schwechat, just outside Vienna.

Gernot Rohr's Super Eagles had already lost 2-1 to England at Wembley last weekend, while the Czechs -- who failed to qualify for the World Cup -- had lost 4-0 to Australia in their previous friendly outing.

Nigeria will face Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in a testing Group D in Russia, with their World Cup opener against Croatia in Kaliningrad on Saturday, June 16.

After the loss, Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi blamed the transportation arrangements for the Super Eagles which involved a 1hr 30mins drive from their hotel as a factor responsible for the defeat.

Mikel was in action for 83 minutes as the Super Eagles lost 1-0 to Czech Republic through an early goal scored by Tomas Kalas.  During the course of the game the players from both sides had to abandon the encounter for five minutes due to persistent rainfall.

The Eagles could not recover from the early goal even though they put in a better performance in the second half of the encounter.

In a tweet by journalist Oma Akatugba, Mikel reportedly revealed that the transportation to the stadium affected the Super Eagles performance in the game against Czech Republic.

The message said,  "Mikel John OBI says the ca 1 hour 30 minutes drive from their hotel to the stadium and the weather affected the team. But “we don’t want to think about this game again.”

Asides the transportation issues Mikel also stated that he and his team do not want to think about the preparatory encounter again.

#RamadanDailyDigest: Muslim Wives Are Supporters, Not Slaves

Muslims have completed fasting Day 4 today, as they look forward to Day 5 fasting out of the 29 or 30 days fasting; it is important to highlight the roles Muslim wives play in the family. Muslim wives are supporters, and not slaves, and should be treated with utmost dignity. In the religion of Islam, the roles and rights of Muslim wives are copiously written and spoken about. How husbands should relate with their wives are clearly stated. In the Glorious Qur'an, to show the love Allaah has for women, chapter 4 is also called 'Suuratu Nisaa' which translates to chapter of the women in English language. Interesting to know that there is no single chapter out of the total 114 chapters of the Glorious Qur'an named after men, further showing that Muslim wives, daughters, mothers, and all groups of females are held in high esteem by Allaah. It is a sad tale to see what happens in the present day world, whereby some women are maltreated and abused by the society and their part...
