Jolly Nyame 14 Years Prison Sentence; 4 Reasons Why Nigerian Political Office Holders Will Not Learn Any Lesson
It is no longer a news that former governor of Taraba state, Reverend Jolly Nyame has been sentenced to 14 years behind bars, by an Abuja High Court for corrupt practices, while he held sway as the chief executive officer of the Northeast state between 1999 and 2007.
Recall that Nyame was at a time governor of the same Taraba between 1992 and 1993.
The sad thing is that the embattled ex Taraba governor had all the opportunities to change the fortunes of one of the poorest states in Nigeria, however, he was said to have mismanaged public funds, despite referred to as a Reverend.
It is sad that Nyame's sentence won't send any jittery into the spines of Nigerian political office holders because of the four stated reasons below:
1. Nigerian politicians always believe corruption will often win its battle against the government.
2. The political actors have the perception that they have money to buy out their way any day and at any time.
3. The punitive measures for corrupt office holders in the country are nothing to write home about.
4. Corrupt cases drag on for eternity, with the alleged corrupt person gaining at the end of the day, probably at the Supreme Court.
