Ex Arsenal legend and former Chelsea player, Emmanuel Petit is afraid new Gunners boss, Unai Emery could have challenges handling the dressing room egos of some players at the Emirates.
The immediate past PSG manager was named Arsene Wenger's successor at the end of the 2017/18 after the Frenchman’s 22-year reign at the north London club came to an end.
And there’s plenty of work to be done at Arsenal after the club endured a disappointing season which saw them eventually finish in sixth spot in the Premier League.
The players must believe in him and follow his instructions, but I’m not sure that will happen,’ Petit said. ‘He was unable to do that at Paris Saint-Germain because of the egos in the dressing room.
‘He was being eaten by the players, and he didn’t have the personality to be the leader.
‘Having watched him over the past two years in France, you could see he was frustrated. It was obvious he was alone at the club.
‘The president didn’t protect him and Emery had to front up alone to criticism. The players spoke out against him.
‘I pitied him sometimes – he never got the chance to do what he wanted. There were too many divas in the PSG dressing room.
‘Some at Arsenal can be the same, but I hope they give him the chance. There was more quality and personality in the PSG side, so it may be easier for him to make inroads with the personnel at Arsenal.’
