Daily Ramadan Digest: 5 Characteristics Of An Orphan And 3 Unbelievable Rewards For Any Muslim Who Takes Care Of An Orphan

Who is an orphan and what value or rewards await someone who puts an orphan in his or her custody for care and safe keep just like his or her own biological children?

According to two definitions from the American dictionary, an orphan is: "A person especially a minor, both or (rarely) one of whose parents have died." OR "A person especially a minor, whose parents have permanently abandoned him."

Comparing the real meaning of who an orphan is according to Shari'a (Islamic laws/jurisprudence), Sheikh Abdulmajeed Imran Eleha says: "An orphan is a person whose father is dead but still has a mother" OR "An orphan could also be a baby or minor who was abandoned on a dumpsite, walkway path, roadside, etc."

There are myriads of (Aayaat) verses in the Glorious Qu'ran, where Allah (SWT) informed Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon his noble soul) about orphans. These include: Q89vs17, Q107vs2, among others.

The messenger of Allah also preached about taking good care of orphans.

Looking down into Shari'a, the five features itemised below are synonymous with an orphan

1. A person who is always feeling lonely.

2. A person who people always forget he exist.

3. A weak person.

4. A person who is often seen as the last one to be given attention.

5. A person in need of monetary and material resources.

Furthermore, every Muslim who has the financial means should try to have at least an orphan in his care. This is because the rewards for taking care of an orphan until he becomes financially independent is enormous.

1. A person who takes care of at least three orphans will get the reward as if he used all his lifetime to observe Nawaafil (voluntary prayers) and to do Jihaad (striving on the course of Islam with wealth and body).

2. A person who takes care of an orphan and also plays with him by using his fingers to comb the orphan's hair will be rewarded on each hair strand of the orphan he combs with his fingers.

3. Finally on the day of judgement, the person will be together with the Messenger of Allah, in addition, he will be an occupant of Al-Janna (Paradise).

As Ramadan rolls on, every Muslim should think of how he will take care of at least an orphan. And also see him or her as one of his own children when he does so.

#RamadanDailyDigest: Muslim Wives Are Supporters, Not Slaves

Muslims have completed fasting Day 4 today, as they look forward to Day 5 fasting out of the 29 or 30 days fasting; it is important to highlight the roles Muslim wives play in the family. Muslim wives are supporters, and not slaves, and should be treated with utmost dignity. In the religion of Islam, the roles and rights of Muslim wives are copiously written and spoken about. How husbands should relate with their wives are clearly stated. In the Glorious Qur'an, to show the love Allaah has for women, chapter 4 is also called 'Suuratu Nisaa' which translates to chapter of the women in English language. Interesting to know that there is no single chapter out of the total 114 chapters of the Glorious Qur'an named after men, further showing that Muslim wives, daughters, mothers, and all groups of females are held in high esteem by Allaah. It is a sad tale to see what happens in the present day world, whereby some women are maltreated and abused by the society and their part...
